First Math Unit: Patterning
Students learn to describe, extend, and create patterns using shapes and numbers. We will search for number and shape patterns throughout the school and photograph them with our iPad. The students will do a variety of activities using manipulatives and numbers to show patterns that increase, decrease, or repeat.
Unit 2: Place Value
Students learn to express numbers in written, expanded and standard form. They round to the nearest 10 (grade 2) and the nearest 100 (grade 3). Students can show their understanding of concepts through one-on-one assessment and small group activities.

Numeration: place value and base-10 blocks
We will be using base-10 blocks to represent the Stephen Leacock Public School population. Students are learning to write three digit numbers( grade 3) or two digit numbers (grade 2) in standard and expanded forms, and to represent them with base-10 blocks. They will use these skills to solve real life math problems.
